Let's get serious.

OK Boys, instead of picking apart the selectors after they have announced the team I thought I would take the chance to get shouted down (or not) and name my 12 for Brisbane.
Note:
Katich is picked if his thumb is ok, if not Jaques comes in.
No specialist spinner on this deck for me, White can handle 10 - 15 overs a day if needed.
If Bollinger is unfit McKay comes in.

1. Katich
2. Hughes
3. Clarke
4. Khawaja
5. Ponting (C)
6. Watson
7. White
8. Haddin
9. Siddle
10. Hilfenhaus
11. Bollinger

12. Smith

  1. Here is mine in batting order

    1. Katich (c)
    2. Watson
    3. Clarke
    4. Ponting
    5. Ferguson
    6. Hughes
    7. White
    8. Paine (w)
    9. Siddle
    10. Hilfenhaus
    11. Bollinger

    12. Smith

Same for me. If Katich is not fit, but put Hughes to open and Hussey at 6.

  2. Interesting that neither of you have picked Smith to play, is Brisbane a pitch that doesn't offer any turn? Did Warne not do so well on it over the years? Or do you still reckon he needs some time before he's ready for Test cricket?

  3. 1)Katich (c)

    3)Clarke

Siddle needs to get his temperment in check.
Ponting needs to JUST make runs.
Hughes needs to get the Pom monkey off his back
Khawaja needs to play test coz he has a 1st class av of 54
White can't bowl any more and is only a short form batsman.

  4. i've got Smith MPA, but i don't think he is fully ready... but given the options...

talk is that the GABBA will be more like an old Perth track; that said, Warne had a record 8/71 on the GABBA, so...who knows!

  5. Interesting how we have such different ideas of who should play in Brisbane. I don't think our thoughts were anywhere near this varied throughout the whole of the 2009 Ashes!

    My ideal 11:

    Watson
    Katich
    Ponting
    Clarke
    Kawajhazhaj
    Ferguson
    Haddin
    Doherty
    Johnson
    Hilfenhaus
    Harris

    12th
    Smith

  7. MPA I would pick Warne to play on a pitch made of ice. The man could still get turn.
Brisvegas was good for Warne cos it was juicy on the first day if we lost the toss, or if we won and some idiot chose to bowl....

  8. doherty and smith both are not good enough to bowl at test level for australia. If over rate becomes a problem get kat or north to bowl a few, Is haury not playing?

  11. well he is the last australian to make a century for one and he averages better than ferguson. why should ferguson get a look he averages 35 in sheld cricket which is poor. i understand there is little to pick from though

  12. that is a good point, but he is too inconsistent and overall hasn't contributed enough for my liking.

  13. also, while i value the 3 figure score, it shouldn't be a benchmark; last season when many were complaining that no one had made a ton, it didn't really matter as many of the batsmen were making big scores and building the team innings- which is surely more important than a couple of players making a century.

  14. well if we want to do it properly put Khawaja the best new talent in at number six, like in the past the best new australian young batsmen comes in at six i think ponting clarke and hussey all done it, so maybe that could be the way to go.
