Some Runs For The "L" Man

Boys it's time to recognise the only one of us that plays competitive cricket amongst us and his breakthrough score on the weekend. As an opener myself who has struggled at times it is nice to finally get into the runs if only 30 odd. But 30 odd becomes 50 odd and so on until you are raising your bat for a triple.

Lukey you looked good at 1 for 90ish and you certainly did your job. As a captain it must have been frustrating to watch the good start slip away.

Anyway mate, well done on putting some in the book. May your next one be a big one!!

  2. Gee fellas you're making me blush! Cheers for the support!

It's always the case with team sport - you'd rather make a quacker and you're team get up than make a few and lose. It was heart-breaking to watch unfold. With 8 wickets in hand and needing 120 off 180 you should get the win. It was very quiet with the fellas after that loss.

Personally I bloody needed that dig; I've felt good all year and just couldn't hang out in the middle for long enough and on Sat it finally clicked. Chanceless til that fatal ball (a slower ball half tracker that I didn't pick) it was the best I've batted in B grade so can't wait til Sat. The plan was for me and the other opener to hang out for half the innings and build a platform for the others to finish.

The way we batted I think is best suited to putting a target on the board so I'm looking to bat first this weekend and myself to bat all day. I needed to get a move on when I got out Sat so I felt that it wasn't the worst time to exit. It brought our number 3 in who is simply destructive to bowling. When he got out for 34 that was when momentum left us and we couldn't get it back. He knew it too - I've never seen him that frustrated when he got out. Unfortunately the other opener got out shortly after me and we didn't really have another partnership. A mate said to me that night that perhaps we'll need to go through that time of close losses before we turn those performances into wins. From where we were at the start of the season I know we're improving so it's a positive season overall.

Thanks to Sledgie the brainstrust for the Sunday dissemination and Stoph and Nossie for the ongoing support!
