I'd like to Purge the people of Earth...

....I mean urge the people of Perth, and Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and so on to look in their cupboards, drawers, in the shed...anywhere for some form please. Anyone who finds some form please send it to the Australian XI....sorry I mean XVII.

Yesterdays batting efforts in Shield or tour matches:

P. Hughes: 11
Khawaja: 13
S. Smith: 59
C. Ferguson: 7
M Hussey: 0 (off 18)
M. North: 17
S. Watson: 6
S. Katich: 1
P. Jaques 28
B.Haddin: 10
R. Ponting 7

Hussey and North were the worst considering that WA made 320 runs on the MCG.
The Sydney pitch must be suspect (why did Kat choose to bat??????)
And Hobart was a good call by the Enlish on a bowler friendly day and pitch.

  2. Ridiculous isn't it! Bloody guy goes and makes a ton while North and Hussey give nothing. While this happens Ferguson and Kawajahaqua fail; as does every other test batsman! England roll the Aus A and then start piling on runs. This tour has got off to a flyer for England while every Aus player likely to feature in the 11 has had a rough trot. At least North can look back to his 2nd innings hundred for WA but what can Hussey look to? The Oval last year!

Preparation could hardly be worse in terms of results for Aus. The last thing you want before a test is your last outing being rubbish. Guess all you can do is write off all that went before and start again.

This time in 2 weeks I'll be getting the eski ready.............

By the way; have probably the best side I've had all year for this weekend with a few bowling options and a fairly solid top 6. Playing the reigning premiers of the last 3 years in a row too. Can't bloody wait!

  3. very frustrating! good example to use Sledgey.
being at home, i'm watching most of this tour match, and am very impressed with the way Smith took on the role of occupying the crease (i think his bowling has improved too- around the wicket to Bell at the mo! a bit bizarre! but he is having a go.)

without Bells big score this would be a lot more interesting a game.

can you take an eski in to Adelaide? TOPS!
2 weeks to go, better get those T's done! did you get my email Lefty?

  4. Haven't got an email Stoph but did get something posted! Thanks for the package bro; transferred funds today.

Johnson got a 5 for to go with his ton and a few blokes got some pretty good bowling figures but some are probably flattering when you look at so many low scores in the shield games.

  6. Australia'3 13 man squad:
    Simon Katich,
    Shane Watson,
    Ricky Ponting (capt),
    Michael Clarke,
    Michael Hussey,
    Marcus North,
    Brad Haddin (wk),
    Steven Smith,
    Mitchell Johnson,
    Xavier Doherty,
    Peter Siddle,
    Ben Hilfenhaus,
    Doug Bollinger

I reckon Siddle will be 13th man with Smith missing out.
Doherty gets a call up probably due to Peterson's shite form against left arm orthodox bowling....hhe will need to tie up and end as well.

  7. The answer to your question Stoph "Can you take an Esky into the Adelaide Oval?" is NO.
We did this year Australia Day but were told once in that they are banned and we never should have been let in.
As for the Australian side. Can't say I am surprised. North knows something about someone and Hussey seems to have survived on his junk... I mean 2nd innings hundred.
The selectors made up their mind a while ago that Hussey and North would be in The Ashes squad no matter what.
The Hauritz omission is not earth shattering but I love the X factor. How he was dropped for the shorter stuff after his debut I have no idea. I think he will worry more than just KP. Youthful exuberance is what this team needs and I hope they throw him the ball early to settle the nerves.
Johnson has impressed ..... with the bat so that's a god sign but I am still picking him to shine is Brisvegas and end the series top wicket taker.

  8. I'm actually a little buoyed by the 13 in a way. I'd resigned to the fact the batting lineup wouldn't change and perhaps the young blokes sealed their fates by not making many for the Aus A. Hussey and North have made tons in the last few weeks so that was probably all that the selectors needed to feel vindicated in picking them.
A lot rests on Johnson. Hilf will do a sound job but as much as I like him he is more of a stock bowler who will get you 3 wickets (over the course of 3 spells) at a good economy rate but not rip through a top order. Bolly can get reverse but is too inconsistent for mine. It could all go well for Aus with the ball but unlike when McGrath and Gillespie teamed with Warne, when you always had the confidence 10 wickets were a given, it could go the way of Lords last year.
KP looks very vulnerable indeed and the Doherty selection is probably purposeful with KP and several other right handers in the Eng middle order. At least the plan becomes simple; quicks take out the openers, Collingwood and hopefully Broad, while Doherty takes KP, Bell and Prior. Swann is a danger man down the order and his cameos add those valuable runs late. This will be key to how the Ashes goes. If Aus can't finish innings off we are in real trouble.
Clarke obviously has serious back trouble and unless he takes 12 months off it will not recover. All the more reason he doesn't play limited overs cricket at all.
The eski reference was to our base during the Adel test - ie Henley Beach!
Stoph - bainluke@yahoo.com is my email mate. I'll leave the kilt in plastic til you guys make it. I will have gone to the test the first day so I might be a little refreshed when you guys get here!
On MLCC news; we got absolutely done yesterday. Bowled out for 75 and are already 90 runs behind going into the 2nd weekend; needing 3 wickets to finish them off. I gave the guys an absolute spray after the day's play. Something I've never done as a captain before. Yours truly yorked himself, again, and so was bowled for the 6th time in 6 innings. Our top order is throwing its wickets away and with a bit-part bowling lineup we will not be competitive unless we do our job as a batting unit. We'll be asked to bat again for most of the day next weekend so a chance to atone for a woeful performance yesterday. I'm going to drop down to 5 to change it up and look to finish not out at the end of the day.
