Obviously i can't tell if you have just googled for answers, but i though it might be fun to see how much everyone knows about the formative years of cricket.

3)How long after the 1st Test were the Ashes created? They were created by God and given to the English to give to the Australians on the same day that he invented cricket (the fifth day?)
4)How did the Sheffield Sheild get its name? The New South Welsh team in 1642 didn't have enough good players and no Kiwi's were available either so they picked a woman, other names suggested were shebbat, shebbowl and sheourbestplayerevenifshewoman.
5)How many ball overs were bowled in the 1st Test? When did it change? 10. It changed in the second innings of the England eleven because they were embarassed at being bowled out in an over.
6)What was unique about W.Midwinters Test career? He kept to his own bowling.

I have no idea about any of these incredible questions, but in any case I love Ponsford's responses. The last one about Midwinters sounds vaguely familiar though.

1) the ACC preceded federation by 8 years and 9 months although it also disbanded before the states had united!
2) Bowen bridge ground had the soil for its pitches brought to Brisbane from Merri Creek on the (then) outskirts of Melbourne!
3)the Ashes were created 6 years after the 1st test and 5 months after the "Ashes" obituary was written in the Sporting Times.
4)Lord Sheffield donated £150 to have a trophy created in aid of unify cricket in the colonies in 1892
5)4 ball overs were the norm for cricket in 1877 and only changed to 6 in Australia in 1891 and 5 in England in 1890
6)W "Bill"Midwinter was an expat Englishman that started his test career with Australia, moved back to England and played test for them and then played for Australia again in England.
